Spring at Finnies

The garden is coming alive with Spring.   The water is on, less pressure every year though :(  and the washrooms are open for business.

The goldfish are getting more active, and appear to be healthy.
Just a few of the goldfish are shown in this image, nice to see that the fish are utilizing the entire pond.  Time for a small cleanup soon, and remove some of the dead leaved in the deep end of the pond.

Anemone sp., flowering away, these were rescued from the back road after someone dumped them. They are thriving and safe at Finnies.
Plant and garden features thievery is still an ongoing problem at Finnies, never ends, and never will.

Please remember that Finnies Garden is entirely run and maintained by volunteers, with NO help from the Government at all, and the garbage cans are there for the patients only.

I have uploaded a large collection of images to Flickr of Finnies Garden, view them as a SET or as a SLIDESHOW.

Whats new at Finnies

Was up at Finnies yesterday, Roger, Don,and  myself fixed a bad water leak, a hemlock trees roots had grown thicker and split the polyethylene pipe. At the same time we shut down the bathroom, since it appears that no government staff will be around to lock the place up and shut off the water before the big freeze happens, as in past years.  Makes me wonder what is going on inside and outside the buildings, to protect the water supplies.???? We shut  the water off, which now means that the goldfish pond is now on its own, dependant on rain water to keep the levels up, the pond still leaks, probably always will, even though we put a lot of work into it many years ago.  Still the pond has been working much better than in the past.

Finnie's Garden, located at Riverview Hospital,Coquitlam,B.C.

Art Finnie, at the official dedication of Finnie's Garden in May,1994

Originally known as; "Farm View", This 2 acre plot of land located in the higher lands of Riverview Hospital, was a early start at horticultural therapy at the hospital. It all started on April,18,1951, when a nurse; Arthur Brian "Art" Finnie, was had previously been asked by a Dr.Bruce Bryson to start a garden project. Art Finnie, took on this task with gusto, and the garden quickly became known as "Finnie's Garden".
Finnie's now has its own click-able MAP that links to pictures, with text about some of the history about the garden.
Check out the YouTube slide-shows, an easy way to get a feel for the garden.
